The purpose of the Hillsborough Water Safety Team is to promote drowning prevention. Our mission is focused on educating parents and caregivers of children under the age of five about the risks of drowning and the simple steps that can be taken to help prevent a tragedy. These measures include placing physical barriers around pools and urging vigilant adult supervision of children in and around water including pools, rivers, streams, lakes, beaches and bathtubs.
According to the Florida State Child Abuse Death Review Team, more than 82,000 children under the age of five years old in Hillsborough County will potentially benefit from this drowning prevention initiative.
In recognition of our "April Pool's Day" campaign,
we've produced :30 public service announcements
(PSAs) for television and radio to raise awareness of our mission.
